Spring Block Party!
This past weekend we were so excited to host an amazing spring block party in the community. After posting over 150 flyers to the park and to the surrounding community at the elementary school, we were proud to host a collaboration between three local nonprofits. We are thankful for Sole2Soul and Kingdom Christian Outreach Ministries for partnering with us to not only serve the community with tangible needs, but also share the good news of Jesus to all, no matter the language.
After a slow start, families began to pour into the venue and took their seats to kick off the event. To begin, there was a small worship session lead by KCOM and they were filled with grace as they overcame obstacles of language barriers as we worshiped Jesus together. Then with even more grace, our program assistant Abby Coffey stepped up to translate the sermon into Spanish so that all present could understand the gospel in their own language. Although it wasn’t perfect, it was a beautiful picture of the nations coming together to hear the same word and sit under the universal truth that Jesus is Lord.
Then it was off to the races as community members went around the venue collecting free groceries, clothing, shoes, and hygiene items all provided by KCOM and Sole2Soul. My favorite moment from this time was when a little girl in our ministry got a pair of new shoes for maybe the first time in her life. She normally receives worn and tattered hand-me-downs. But last week she got her first pair of shoes that were her own. The smile of her face said it all as she was beaming from ear to ear. She couldn’t wait to tell everyone about her new shoes.
This is just one example of how our community was blessed this past week. Families from all over the neighborhood not only received tangible items for their household, but also heard the gospel of Jesus clearly. Sometimes it can be so hard to reach the parents in the neighborhood, but this day all who were present, no matter their language, heard the truth. This is a bigger win than any of the other amazing things that happened, and for this we are thankful.
